Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature created by The Broke and the Bookish, where bloggers share their top ten responses to a given theme. I tend to stick to lists of five!
Book-to-movie adaptations can be hit-or-miss: sometimes they cut out fantastic scenes and characters in the name of brevity, but other times they’ll dazzle you with stunning visuals and top-notch acting. Here are 5 upcoming adaptations that I really hope are hits:
- The Martian
- Madame Bovary
- Hunger Games: Mockingjay pt. 2
- Victor Frankenstein
I’m a sucker for a good immigration story, especially one with awesome retro costuming. Critics seem to love this one, too: Brooklyn currently boasts an incredible 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The book was entertaining, but as a person without a science background, my eyes glazed over at all the scientific jargon and descriptions of machinery. Judging by the movie trailer, it looks like the jargon will translate better for me once I can actually see the machines in action.
Mia Wasikowska made a pretty convincing Jane Eyre in the 2011 film adaptation, so I’m all for seeing her in another literary period drama.
Sometimes you’re just in the mood for soaring music and big explosions, y’know?
This delightfully campy-looking adaptation stars young Professor Xavier as a mad scientist, hirsute Harry Potter as a lackey, and Moriarty as, uh, somebody menacing.
Yeah, I’m pretty excited.
- Now that the promotional posters have come out, I’m starting to get excited about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016).
- Wikipedia tells me that someone picked up the film rights to Leigh Bardugo’s Grisha trilogy, back in 2012. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that an actual movie comes of it!
