5 Intriguing Book-to-Movie Adaptations of 2015

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature created by The Broke and the Bookish, where bloggers share their top ten responses to a given theme. I tend to stick to lists of five!

Book-to-movie adaptations can be hit-or-miss: sometimes they cut out fantastic scenes and characters in the name of brevity, but other times they’ll dazzle you with stunning visuals and top-notch acting. Here are 5 upcoming adaptations that I really hope are hits:

  1. Brooklyn
  2. I’m a sucker for a good immigration story, especially one with awesome retro costuming. Critics seem to love this one, too: Brooklyn currently boasts an incredible 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

  3. The Martian

  4. The book was entertaining, but as a person without a science background, my eyes glazed over at all the scientific jargon and descriptions of machinery. Judging by the movie trailer, it looks like the jargon will translate better for me once I can actually see the machines in action.

  5. Madame Bovary

  6. Mia Wasikowska made a pretty convincing Jane Eyre in the 2011 film adaptation, so I’m all for seeing her in another literary period drama.

  7. Hunger Games: Mockingjay pt. 2

  8. Sometimes you’re just in the mood for soaring music and big explosions, y’know?

  9. Victor Frankenstein

  10. This delightfully campy-looking adaptation stars young Professor Xavier as a mad scientist, hirsute Harry Potter as a lackey, and Moriarty as, uh, somebody menacing.
    Yeah, I’m pretty excited.

Non-2015 bonuses:

  • Now that the promotional posters have come out, I’m starting to get excited about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016).
  • Wikipedia tells me that someone picked up the film rights to Leigh Bardugo’s Grisha trilogy, back in 2012. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that an actual movie comes of it!

Nice list!! The Martian is an awesome movie… I just saw it a few weeks ago with my hubby. Now to read the novel! I realize now that I forgot to add The Book Thief to my list this week too as I still have to read this book or watch the movie adaptation.

Did you decide you wanted to read the book, after all? (or did I misunderstand?) What changed your mind?

The Martian movie poster is so freaky to me, honestly. I’ve been looking forward to Mockingjay: Part 2, also! I actually haven’t seen the Jane Eyre movie! I saw Mia Wasikowska in Alice In Wonderland and she was pretty good. Lovely post!

YES TO ALL OF THESE. Great choices, Paloma.

I absolutely adore Saoirse Ronan, so I’ll see whatever she’s in, especially Brooklyn. She finally gets to keep her Irish accent. Yeeeee.

I’m halfway through The Martian, and am dying to see it in theaters. It looks so awesome! Gahhhh.

SO, SO excited for all of these movies – especially The Martian (it seems like the kind of book that would transfer to screen wonderfully) and Mockingjay. Glad you’re looking forward to them too! Thanks for sharing and great choices! ♥

I had no idea James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe will be starring in a film together, that’s actually great news! ๐Ÿ™‚
I read Madame Bovary twice, it’s a wonderful book and I’m excited about the adaptation, too. But I have to admit I’ve only seen one film with Mia – Alice in Wonderland – and wasn’t a huge fan… We’ll see how she does here!
And this is my first time on your blog and it’s so beautiful! I love simple designs.
